No Qualitative data!

Posted by Denise1904 on January 25, 2022, at 16:21:24

Whenever, I read up on studies on treatment for depression/anxiety it's all quantitative data. Why is that?

I have the opportunity of having a VNS implant for depression but when I look at the studies it just shows the statistics. The percentage of people with depression who responded and that seems to be it.

As we all know there are lots of types of depression and anxiety. What I want to see is data showing correlations between responders and types of depression/anxiety.

I was sent two videos showing interview with two people who responded to VNS. What I did notice is that both patients had been inpatients in hospital (fortunately, thanks to zyprexa I've never been an inpatient) and both people were overweight. Which makes me wonder if they had the type of depression that made them eat and sleep more. With my mood disorder, I lose my appetite, I feel nauseous for much of the time, sometime I feel like I'm going to vomit, I lose weight, I chain smoke, I can't sleep, I feel morbid, scared and I find it difficult to sit still.

How do I know if I'm a good candidate for VNS? It's like some kind of a crap shoot. Do I just take a shot at it and hope for the best?
