In reply to St John's Wort - An MAOI?, posted by Maxime on December 26, 2003, at 13:16:55
I would say definately not.
The actions of SJW are only partially explained by MAOI inhibiton. It also has reputake inhibiting properties for serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. The weakness of SJW as an MAOI can be seen by the fact that hypertensiver crisis have never been reported.
It is very easy to get Serotonin syndrome on SJW and and SSRI. I would advise against combining the two.
