In reply to L-arginine -- any experiences?, posted by psychlover on January 5, 2004, at 5:40:50
1. toooo much nitric oxide (a known poison freely emitted by macrophage white blood cells onto invading microbes) can cause toxic shock. Toxic shock is the perfectly healthy body overdosing the "invaders" to save itself. By overdosing, the body poisons itself while trying to save itself. This is also the cause of most viagra related deaths (yes, there have been deaths).
2. Durk Pearson recommended 300 mg in his book "Life Extensions". I found that much L-argenine to cause a dull pain in the very center of my skull, implying that such a dose was masaging the ever-important pituitary as he predicted.
After a couple of months (in 1982), I stopped the dosing because I was no longer convinced that I was better off. I wasn't sure that what was happening to me was actually good (or bad).
You bring up the information that L-argenine promotes production of nitric oxide and I am wondering if it wouldn't mostly be effective in consort with Vit-C in fighting cancer.
I personally don't trust 300mg/day. But, maybe 100mg twice daily would work out. I'll have to go back to the lab (my body) and find out..... if can find any on the shelf.
