Insulin resistance means that the effect of the insulin is much weaker than it should be. Your body is unable to respond effectively to the insulin, and your pancreas starts to burn itself out trying to churn out enough insulin. Sugar craving could have been your body starving for sugar, even though there was already lots in the blood. It wasn't getting into the muscles and organs that needed it.
