It didn't seem to help me but I never took over 800 mg/day. I think that the effective dose is generally 1200 to 1600 mg per day. I have not heard too many success stories. Even in Richard Brown's book, if I remember correctly, Brown said that it does not work in monotherapy with most of his patients. He just thinks that it helps in combination with prescription antidepressants.
He is the only doctor that I am aware of who promotes SAM-e for depression.
