Looked up a few things about melatonin but a lot of the articles aren't that clear!
Seems melatonin is a powerful antioxidant in it's own right, but also is thought to stimulate the gene expression of other antioxidants - so although melatonin levels drop very low in the day, I wonder if it's possible that the other anti-oxidant enzymes remain high?
Also seems that by regulating the sleep/wake cycle, it also boosts the immune system - some artcles referred to it regulating cortisol. Another article cautioned against taking melatonin during the day, because of the disruption to the sleep/wake cycle, and it's effect on the immune system.
Have you managed to find any info yourself?
