I believe that many alternative treatments can improve the course of depressive illness.
For some people, they may not be able to fully cure the illness, but they can definately reduce the effective amount of medication, which will cut side effects and improve quality of life.
In the end, it comes down to the functionality of individual brain cells. Certain vitamins, and omega 3's work to nourish the neurons, and imrprove functionality, not to mention that many nutrients are involved in the formation and production of growth factors, that help to reconnect dammaged limbic structures.
It is very concievable that optimum nutrition can and will protect againts a variety of neurological insults.
With omega 3, it is all about finding the magic dose. Too much generally dose cause problems (But DONT let that turn you off to Omega 3) it is such a precious substance. Your brain loves this stuff.
Start low with it, and go slow. Most studies find the best benifits with under 1 gram of EPA and DHA.
Never close the door to omega 3. Even if it just means takeing one capsule a day.
