Tomatheus,Thank you for your response- basically confirming my own understanding of poitive vs negative ions. Either the manufacturer is nuts, or some marketing person didn't want to use the word "negative" on the product? I just can't fathom why they would include an actual "postive ion generator". I could call and ask them. The filter DOES make the air in my painting studio noticabley clearer/cleaner, and the filter does catch a lot of junk that I can see- so how did they screw up so bad on this other feature? Weird. Thanks again for your response.

But unless you can confirm that the ion generator was actually an incorrectly labeled negative ion generator, I think it would probably be wise to continue to keep the ion generator on your filter switched to "off."
