B1 injections reply..sorry lost the thread

Posted by tealady on November 25, 2006, at 0:53:35

I know someone asked me about B1 injections and now I can't find the post.
I do give them to myself.
I just buy the B1 from the chemist.
I did ask a German trained doc.. it's fairly common to give it over there apparently, but she'd never heard of it in Oz.

It took me a looong time to locate some .
I get mine from a chemist but his supplier imports the capsules from Canada as none is made here.. except some I don't like with preservative and a very high price tag!
It costs me abot AUD$22 for 10 capsules , so not too bad.
I used to give myself B12 injections and that is commonly done, so I consider this much the same.
The B12 didnt help me and I had this strange reaction to it of palms of hands and soles of feet increasing their tingling and turning a purplish red shade.
I do hate injections though and it was only out of desperation.
You can also buy benfotamine in the US which I will probably do one day.
I just wanted to try a pure B1 first to see how it affected me.
This is all on my blog under injections and benfotamine etc..as is the long story of looking for some B1!..but it isnt worth reading :)

On that b1 headings post, Browyn, who surprisingly lives in the same suburb as me although I've never met her.. she got diagnosed in a country hospital but that doc has left.
i did ask an endo to test me, but he want interested and tsted me for coeliac instead..which I knew I didn't have as I don't have the symptoms and I've tested negative before... sigh (arrogant endos!)
He says B1 deficiency is rare, so wouldnt bother testing for it. I'd been far happier if he had.
It probably is rare, and the test is not clear cut either, IT exp[ect it would be even rarer in the US as its added to white rice over there and in Canada. Its only in the past decade been added to white flour in Oz. No addition to anything I think at present in NZ?

Anyway... it'll depend on where you live, what you eat , etc.
Carbs deplete B1 .. which I suspect is why some do better on low carb diets.
