The less efficient regulation system hypothesis occurred to me, too. It would explain why I react so strongly to supplementation with stuff my body manufactures itself and/or comes in my food. Tyrosine, tryptophan, glycine, NADH, SAMe, inositol... these have all (for better or worse) affected me profoundly.

This could also explain why my mood has always been prone to inexplicable shifts, etc.
