It is not banned in the U.S. (I assume that is where you are from based on your tryptophan reference.) I have mostly seen it in some combination formulas recently. I agree with you. It seems to have fallen out of favor since reports of liver damage with high doses came out a few years ago. Still, it seems safer to me than alcohol.

If you can't find it at a local store, you can easily obtain it on the Internet.
