It was contracted out to a marketing firm that also represents Procter and Gamble, the Dole Conglomerate, MacDonalds, and others. Dairy and wheat dominate the design, yet these are the two largest sources of food intolerance and overt allergy in the entire food supply. The chairman of the committee which developed the updated dietary guidelines was nominated by the Wheat Foods Council. 7 of the 13 committee members have received food industry funding and/or consultancies.
To see the magnitude of the *known* malnutrition problem, look at Table D1-2, at http://www.health.gov/DietaryGuidelines/dga2005/report/HTML/D1_Tables.htm
Nota bene, Squig. health.gov website.
Let's see......6.8% of women have an adequate vitamin E intake. That means 93.2% fall below the AI, which is the 50th percentile for displaying overt symptoms of deficiency. 20.9% obtain adequate folate, and that includes fortifed foods already. (I'm assuming the standard definition for adequacy, but even if adequacy is the DRI, this is an astoundingly important finding, which receives exactly how much publicity???? And how many public health warnings on the subject have you seen/heard/read?)

But when you need

There is no possible way to predict how much ill health could be prophylactically eliminated by simply supplying the body with what it optimally requires. But I know one thing without any doubt: I do not have a Prozac deficiency.
