Occasional use of Niacinamide--bipolar

Posted by Lao Tzu on February 19, 2009, at 10:36:17

I've found that OCCASIONAL use of the form of B3 called niacinamide helps my mood and depression. I can't take it everyday because I become tolerant to its effects and it tends to make my depression worse with daily use. This may be because of its effects on GABA receptors. Stimulating GABA receptors everyday may cause tolerance and possibly worsen depression. So I am taking 30mg of niacinamide EVERY OTHER day to see if it maintains its effects without causing depression. It definitely has a different pharmacological profile than plain old Niacin, but I also take Niacin at bedtime to help with sleep. I'll post my results in the coming weeks.
