Eskimo-3 fish oil for depression

Posted by Lao Tzu on July 6, 2009, at 11:34:17

I tout Eskimo-3 brand fish oil because I can't tolerate real high doses of EPA and DHA. Eskimo-3 comes in 500mg capsules with smaller amounts of EPA and DHA for those who are sensitive to Essential Fatty Acids. I like this brand because I have more control over the dose I take unlike other fish oil brands which usually come in 1,000mg capsules with much higher amounts of EPA and DHA. For example, I started taking 3 capsules a day of Eskimo-3. A few months later, I increased my dosage to 5 capsules per day, which is about 2.5g of fish oil. I can't tolerate anymore than this. I tried various other brands, but the capsule size was too large and taking too many "big" capsules affected my mood negatively. With Eskimo-3, you can take a little or more depending on how you tolerate fatty acids. Just wanted to throw this out there for those who are looking to supplement with fatty acids for depression, but who had negative responses to taking large fish oil capsules containing high amounts of EPA and DHA.
