Seriously. This Orthomolecular thing has some benefits...
...I'm taking 3x 1,000mgs/niacinamide time release tablets. I couldn't find my usual brand, which is 1.5 grams sustained release tablets. I take all 3 with food and the other Bs I take (b-100, biotin, folic acid, b6 when I remember). And...
...I'm calm(er). I sleep well. My obsessive weirdness is there, but not so bad. I was once very good about getting my niacinamide, then I slacked off (not good). Now, I think that I'm getting more mileage out of the Rx treatments, especially the anticonvulsants (I take 1200/Trileptal and 100/Lamictal).
Boosting niacin levels indirectly raises tryptophan levels, which apparently leads to all sorts of mental health goodness (more tryptophan for serotonin, for instance).
My skin's better off, too (high dose niacinamide is sometimes used for skin problems), which is awesome...the Rx treatments for my set of issues now have an FDA-mandated black box about increasing the risk of cancer. :-(
I know I'm a broken record: "Try Orthomolecular! No, really; give OM a go! Ever tried Orthomolecular?," but...wow. Under modern diagnostic criteria, I'm apparently considered Bipolar I. The OM docs would have diagnosed me with one of the "schizophrenias," so I'm following a modified version of OM for schizophrenia (by "modified" I mean I went all OCD and added lots of stuff).Hope this helps somebody.
