I have no direct experience with these supplements or extracts, but curries almost always contain considerable turmeric, and some are definitely mood elevating! This is usually attributed to endorphins from the PAIN of eating the burning hot curry, but I'm not convinced. I think some of the spices such as turmeric must have active principles that haven't yet been identified. I remember eating an unusual Indonesian curry, Sayor Lodeh, a deceptively innocent looking vegetable stew with coconut milk and a number of unusual herbs and spices, and walking out of the restaurant high as a kite!
