In reply to prayer for those in the path of hurricane Jeanne, posted by Jai Narayan on September 25, 2004, at 15:20:15
I grew up in a house without water, lights, or indoor plumbing. A friend just returned from two years on a remote island with none of the above. Both were wonderful experiences and are good memories. We have created a monster lifestyle in America that has made us far too vulnerable in a way that we weren't in the old days, doing things the old ways. It is good to remember how things were done back then. Necessity has always been the mother of invention. Perhaps it is time to look at new ways of doing old things. I look forward to the inventions of the future, and hope things get less expensive as they become easier to manage, more simplistic, less junk, more love. The monster greed is destroying any hope of a more simple existance as it rages out of control. Greed is like the hurricane, bearing down in destruction. What's the antidote to greed? Thinking of others first. So, my prayer in the midst of the hurricane is that people will think of others first. That will calm the storm.
