Son of Man

Have you ever wondered why Jesus is referred to as Son of Man?

I realize the common Christian belief is that Jesus' Father, God, does not have the form of a man like He does, but people of my faith believe that God the Father is a Man of Holiness. Jesus is the Son of Man of Holiness and when Jesus refers to himself as Son of Man, it is logical that the man He is referring to is God the Father.
The common belief is that Jesus is the Son of God, so why would the reference to Son of Man be in any way contradictory?
