deconditioning

Posted by CareBear04 on February 18, 2005, at 23:51:37

hi all-- recently, the past week or so, i was in the hospital for a medical stay. in that past week, i lay on my butt in a hospital bed and rotted. occasionally, i walked around the floor, but it was depressing and antisocial. i walked outside once with my mom and in the lobby once another time, but that was it. usually, walking is like second nature to me. i can walk 5, 10 miles without breaking a sweat. today, i walked with my mom after getting discharged and i could barely make 2 miles. i had to stop and rest, too. i felt so worthless. i don't know if it's deconditioning from the hospital or corresponding to weakness of my lungs that they pointed out in the hospital. any suggestions for how to get back in shape quickly? thanks much!
