Ah, now this is something I've just recently discovered (and it makes sense to me anyway!). I thought that because I had acne and relatively oily skin, that I didn't need a moisturisor (um, sorry my spelling is off). But, I think you do. I mean, the skin on your face is very sensitive and apparently even oily skin needs moistursing. Acutally, your skin might be trying to 'over-compensate' the harsh drying chemicals and therefore producing more oil. If you see what I mean. I use Dr Hausakca's normalising day oil and its great. And seriously it was weird at first, applying oil to oily skin, but it really does work nicely.
On the acne.org site they also suggest moisturiser because of the peeling and drying effect of the benzoyl peroxide. It helps counteract that.
As for cakey make up, well I don't know. I use Clinque's 'superbalanced' foundation and that seems to be relatively okay.
And another thing, don't scrub! Scrubbing, apparently, makes things worse, which also makes sense - your skin is inflamed and irritated anyway, so you don't need to scrub to make it any better!
I used to use clinque's 3 step stuff and my acne didn't get any better. Now, I'm using a much gentler routine, and its getting there.
Perhaps your deficient in zinc? I'm going to start taking zinc supplementation to see if it helps any. Do you have white marks on your fingernails? Pumpkin seeds are a good source of zinc.
Perhaps it is hormone related? Or has there been a change in envirnmental factors? Sometimes humidity and things like that cause it.
Yeah I find it pretty depressing to think that I'm going to have to continue battling acne until I'm um, 40? I always assumed I'd grow out of it....eh well.
Kind regards
Meri
