I am wondering if I should have my daughter tested. We have both had under exposure of the sun. And she was breastfed exclusively for a full year. I never took her out in the sun. I was always afraid of sunburn. And just as afraid of sunscreen, so I didn't do that either.
She is 6 years old now. But she was a very late walker. Didn't walk until 22 months old. Also, I have recently taken her to the doctor because she complains of "clashing" in her chest and back and sometimes her buttocks and legs. My husband thinks the "clashing" may be muscle spasms. I also told the doctor that she begs to be carried all the time. Even in fun places like theme parks, and toy stores. She says her legs are tired. The doctor passed it off as "she's bored".
I haven't told him this, but she still can't ride a bike. She can't get up the strength to get one to move, unless I push her first. Still using training wheels too. She is okay on her tricycle, but her friend that's only 4 does better on it than she does, and she (MY daughter) only started riding the tricycle well this very week. And technically her legs are too long for it.
And she has a dip in her spine about midway up. I first noticed it when she was about 18 months old. But that's not to say she wasn't born like that. I had my chiropractor take a look at her when I discovered the dip and she wouldn't walk. He said she was okay. But I am thinking about getting another opinion now. It is not as noticable to the eye now as it was then, but you can feel it and if she bends you can see it. She doesn't complain, so I don't think it hurts her or bothers her. But when she was a baby and wouldn't walk, I was concerned that maybe her spine couldn't support her in the standing position. She didn't even stand unassisted until about 20 months. She didn't crawl until about 12 months. And she didn't sit unassisted until about 9 months of age.
She had great fine motor skills though. Was doing puzzles at around 9 months. Building towers with little wooden blocks. She was drawing pictures and coloring by 18 months. Her pediatrician was not concerned at all about the not walking. He thought she was just concentrating on her intellectual growth.
That's why I took her to the chiropractor (that was just one visit). Later I stopped using the pedatrician, and started taking her to my doctor. He has helped her more than her pediatrician had.
But he isn't getting her complaints lately. He's not figuring them out. I have not been satisfied with the "she's bored" explanation for her "laziness". She does play hard. She plays a lot, tirelessly. She has abundant amounts of energy. But when it comes to using her legs..... she's tired....So, could she be deficient in vit D as well? Could that be the cause of the dip in her spine, and the tired legs, and the "clashing"?
