> You know you can clean your own teeth. I just bought a set of dental picks, the same thing your dentist uses to clean your teeth. You just scrape the plack out from under your gums along side your tooth. This also prevents periodontal disease. Be carfull not to tear up your gums, or be too hard on your teeth. I also bought some mouth wash which kills the bad bacteria in your mouth, this also gets the bacteria under your gums. Better than bruching and flossing alone. There is good and bad bacteria, you want to get rid of the bad bacteria which then the good bacteria will live and multiply. last but not least I bought a water pick which cleans even better under your gums.

Yes I have mid to late stage periodontal disease which showed up when I didn't go to the dentist for years. My goal. To prevent spending the $3000 my dentist wants for periodontal cleaning and medication, for the next 3 visits. Outragious, and insurance only covers $500 worth.

I worked for a (crazy) dentist for several years, whose practice emphasized soft tissue management. I saw many cases of periodontal disease turn themselves around when the patient became more involved in taking care of their gums.

I use a Waterpik oral irrigator, and my dental hygienist has pronounced my home care as top notch. I had been facing having gum surgery. There's also a device that installs into your shower that does the same thing.

Here's to keeping our smiles healthy.
