> Nellie.At 400 IU/day, I'd be really surprised to hear that pain increased because of vitamin D. If you have a diet entirely deficient in calcium, your body will take calcium from bone. But, that will occur with or without vitamin D. You'd have had to be extremely unbalanced already for the vitamin D to have had that effect. (Again, I'm assuming you meant 400 IU.)
Provided you don't have kidney disease, your body can easily deal with excess calcium in diet, so there is no reason not to take calcium supps that might exceed your bodily requirement. I advise supplemental magnesium in roughly a 2:1 calcium/magnesium ratio, as bone is composed of both.
