Fibromyalgia? Effexor? Requip? Side Efx?

Posted by Lonely on May 31, 2007, at 0:20:33

It's been 4-5 yrs since having a mammogram because I was in pain for a week after. Recently a new gyn tried to give me Effexor for the pain (to get me to go for mammogram) and I nearly flipped out because my hubby had been sent into worse manic dep on it plus my one foray into antidepressants (about 5 mgs Celexa out of curiosity)gave me excruciating headache and burning stomach. I consider them highly dangerous for me. Guess I'm sounding off at the moment.

Ok, even more recently I went to a neuro re old head injury and fibro and he claimed I have restless legs syndrome. I don't - I've been diagnosed w/sciatica, and boy it hurts! It was triggered recently by yard work and carrying heavy rocks around for a couple hours. Also, I have spondylosis. But the neuro wouldn't listen to me - was in a hurry. He told me he doesn't treat fibro but gave me Requip sample for alleged RLS. From what I'm reading on the latest re fibromyalgia it's more a NEUROLOGICAL disorder than rheumatological. I noticed that Requip causes compulsive behavior such as gambling and excessive spending in some people and I've decided that is not for me. I also noticed that it's used, apparently off-label, for fibro.

I really don't want narcotics either (and am not taking any) but - this new trend into psychotropic drugs for everything really has me frightened. I can remember too many drugs that came on the market as wonder drugs and now are known to cause other serious problems. It seems like a root cause analysis would be more in order instead of throwing "brain drugs" immediately at every complaint. Ok, that was my complaint - sound off complete!
