I've been to a nutritional doctor, whose main treatment for me was a diet, which is more or less a modified Atkins diet, ie the paleolithic one.

The rules for *me* are
1. Nothing your great-grandparents would not have recognised as food.
2. Fruits, vegies, nuts, pulses, beans and animal protein are OK.
3. Grains are not so good.
4. No milk, sugar etc, though butter is OK for cooking.

Why not get some good cookbooks?
Especially from worthwhile cuisines: Asian and Mediterranean, on which subject
Madhur Jaffrey's "A Taste of India" is my 20 year favourite.
Cooking (so long as I'm left alone to do it) is something I really enjoy.
