Effexor definitely saved me. I was on it on almost a year, then I had a relapse of depression and a hormonal problem at the same time which caused me to no lomger respond to effexor; also I could not tolerate dosage higher than 150mg per day. I have now made the change to cymbalta.
Wellbutrin when added to effexor reduces the sexual side effects so that you are more responsive. If it is a major component of your relationship, I would ask your doctor about it.
But you really have to start by trying the effexor first. Not everyone has the same side effects, and as far as withdrawls go, my personal experience was I tapered for 2 weeks, then stopped. Had 3 days of anxiety (that were nowhere near the severity of my original complaint), and I'm doing well now.
Good luck.
