Taking Control (part 2)

Posted by Cyndi Michelle on May 15, 2012, at 9:15:20

Hello again. I am home from work now, lol.
Continuing:

2. Get plenty of sleep. I try hard to sleep at least 6 hours. I have to take meds to accomplish this. Right now I am taking Melatonin 10 mg and Benadryl 25 mg and it is working very well.
3. Express any negative thoughts and feelings. Talk to anyone you trust (psychiatrist, friend, family, pastor, etc...). If that is not possible, for whatever reason, then write it/them down. The more open you are with your thoughts and feelings the better and more feedback you get. You can figure out why you are having them, if they are "false" and how to turn them from negative to positive.
4. Minimize stress. Make changes in your life slowly. Such as, if you have to move to another city or change jobs, try doing it in small steps instead of all at once. Do whatever you can to stay healthy (being sick is a stressor). Eat a healthy diet and excercise. Express (or write down) your thoughts and feelings about any stress that you have.
5. Use your time wisely. Be creative. I am an impulsive/compulsive and frequently obsessive-compulsive type person. Sometimes my mind races and usually I am thinking the same thoughts over and over and/or I do something and I (HAVE TO) keep doing it (for hours) and sometimes I (HAVE TO) do it over and over (untill I get it right). So now, since I know this about myself, I try doing things constructively. Such as for the last couple of months, I have been building an informational website. I work on it for hours at a time. If I am away from my computer and my mind starts racing about things regarding my website (or anything else)I write my thoughts down. This (usually) stops the thoughts that I am repeatedly thinking.
5. Keep a journal. As I have previously said, write down your thoughts and feelings (especially any negative ones). Anytime your mind is racing, write your thoughts down. Keep track of your moods. Share your information with those people you trust.

OK, now I am tired (as I previously took my night-time meds) so I have to stop again and go to bed. I will be back soon. Cyndi
