In reply to I think my psychiatrist doesn't like me......., posted by Kind Girl on March 11, 2004, at 21:37:19
I had one and only one experience with a psychiatrist and it was enough to put me off forever. I figured when I first decided I needed help that I would go straight to the top, to a psychiatrist. I had no idea that pretty much all they do these days is solely deal with medicine.
So after a 10 minute interview, he told me I needed drugs and started writing out a prescription. I told him I wanted to try psychology first.
"Well, it's clear to me you should be on meds, but if you want to make yourself miserable with talk therapy, be my guest," he said disgustedly. "Here's the number of the LCSW who works here, I assume you'll want to see a woman." And with that, he shut his door and left me out in the hall, making it clear I had just wasted his valuable time.
The LCSW I saw was awful as well, but my current T, a clinical psychologist, is wonderful.
