Hey guys,
so in the last session this year my (analytic) therapist and I were wondering wether or not the therapy helps. He says it is harder to tell if someone is on meds. I see him kind of as a highly skilled listener that offers good insights. And his insights are good because he has studied the mind. Mind you, my previous CBT therapist didn't worry about wether or not it was working at all. So that speaks for my current therapist. Things got better since I have started analytic therapy, so it certainly didn't hurt. It is harder for me to ascertain if psychological treatments help than it is with biological treatments. I went to a great clinic in early 2018 that focuses on psychological treatment, no med changes. I can now say that it helped but I couldn't for a long time. I knew it didn't hurt but I didn't know if i got better through that hospital stay.
What are your experiences combining therapy and meds? Can you tell if it helps? Did anyone dare to go the non CBT analytic route? I like it a lot.
Just wanna give an update here. I am enjoying life to agree that I didn't think was possible years ago. I would say I went from 15% to 60% in the last 3 years, if 100% is non impaired and healthy. I am trying to further improve, of course.
My illness was fueled by frequent med changes and a few too many MAOI experiments(med induced psychosis). In the absence of medication fueled crisis, the mind does recover on its own to a degree. I basically got sicker from going to the psychiatrist. But now I need to go. Thats life. It is a bit on me. I didn't want to let go of the idea that Nardil is helpful to me, because I also had good times on it.
Have a good Christmas and stay healthy!
