Are chatrooms always mean??

I have been to the yahoo chatrooms this week just for fun but they are always mean to me. Is it me or is it just the way chatrooms are? If they are just like that, I'll steer clear from now on.
Jeez, they really get nasty and I don't do anything to deserve it.
