I got my dog from Petfinder.com. They list dogs from shelters and rescue places all over the country. We had to travel quite a bit to get him, but he was just what my kids wanted. You can put in what breed you are looking for, and while most of the matches will be mixes, you do get to see the picture. If you find a dog you like, you can usually do the whole application process on-line.
