I resisted joining this thread for a long time... But now is the time. I have 3 spider "stories".
1. When I was maybe 5 years old I went into my bathroom (the one I had used since we moved there 4 years ago), pulled my pants down and started to sit. There was a Daddy Longlegs on the toilet seat. I almost sat on it. I HATE Daddy Longlegs - even more than "normal" spiders. Fortunately, I decided that the Daddy Longlegs was the problem and not the toilet. It would be hard to live without the toilet...
2. My two daughters have gone to Girl Scout camp for years (of course, I did too...). My oldest has been a counselor. When there is a spider in my house I call one of them and they rescue me.
3. I was the children's librarian at my local library and I started a Bedtime Storytime in the summer. Once a week the kids arrived in their pajamas and carrying their stuffed animals. I read stories, we sang and did the hand motion thing. At the end, I did a song with a large (12 inch) spider puppet. Raffi sings the song, too. I got a volunteer and the child and my puppet acted out the song.
There's a Spider on the Floor
(to the tune of If You're Happy and You Know It)There's a spider on the floor, on the floor.
There's a spider on the floor, on the floor.
Who could ask for any more,
Than a spider on the floor? There's a spider on my leg, on my leg.
There's a spider on my leg, on my leg.
Oh it's really really big,
This old spider on my leg.
There's a spider on my leg, on my leg.Now the spider's on my stomach, on my stomach.
Now the spider's on my stomach, on my stomach.
Oh he's just a dumb old lummock,
This old spider on my stomach.
Now the spider's on my stomach, on my stomach. Now the spider's on my head, on my head.
Now the spider's on my head, on my head.
Oh I wish that I were dead,
I've got a spider on my head.
Now the spider's on my head, on my head. And he jumps off!!!
Now there's a spider on the floor, on the floor.
(Continue all you want.)They loved it.
