Happy Ash Wednesday.
For the one who asked, Fat Tuesday is the last day before lent. It is called Mardi Gras in the french speaking world because it was the last day that people could eat meat, or use meat-fat for cooking.
It is also interesting to note that the word carnival comes from the same source. Carn means meat in spanish, and probably latin. Val come from the latin levare, meaning to remove.
I have decided not to have my forehead painted with black ashes tonight, and will otherwise entertain myself. To those who wish to partake in ancient ritual, happy lent. (Ok, it's a bit of an oxymoron, but such is life.
Dee.
