One of my favorite (currently) movie lines is from "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets". In this movie, when Harry hears something that no-one else does, he tells Hermione that he heard something talking. Hermione tells him not to tell anyone else because "Even in the wizzarding world, hearing voices is not a good sign".
Well, I hear voices, and occasioinally I'm a bit paranoid, but the two aren't really connected. Sometimes, I 'think' I know what other people are thinking, or, if they are far away, what they are saying even if I can't hear them.
In my case, the voices in my head are from my alters. Knowing what other people are thinking just comes from the occasionally psychotic symptoms which I think are from my bipolar disorder. In any case, it's all just so much fun. It's good to know though, that when I hear voices, they are from people who care about me, and want to keep me safe. What can be better than that?
The important thing for you to remember is that you aren't hearing voices, and that means only that you probably don't have any of the conditions that are usually characterized by hearing voices.
I don't think that you mentioned if you have a therapist. If you don't, maybe you might consider it. Perhaps your paranoia is a result of other circumstances. It might be something that happened long ago just showing itself through the paranoia you are feeling now.
I don't know what to say or how to help you, but there are certainly people out there who do.
Good luck,
Dee.
