That last part is a good question: how do you know if you really are nuts? I don't know the answer to that, but I can help with some questions that might help you figure it out.
First, and most importantly, what *exactly* do you expect the surgery to do? For instance, if you wanted, say, breast augmentation, are you looking for an improved appearance? Or for more popularity? While plastic surgery can improve self-image, which can in turn improve social functioning, the surgery itself won't make any difference in your life, beyond appearance.
None of which is true if you're talking about a functional problem. Breast reduction is more often functional than cosmetic, and certain other plastic surgeries can be considered functional, as well.
As far as strictly cosmetic surgeries go, though, I think answering that first question is going to go a long way towards answering your question, of whether or not you're crazy to want this.
