Hi Phillipa,Yes, I really believe that the Effexor helps me a lot. I've posted a bunch of messages on it, but I just seemed to be repeating myself over and over and figured everyone was getting tired of hearing my same old story.
I don't have a problem with Serotonin but rather with epinephrine. So none of the wonderful SSRIs that I tried helped me one bit....in fact, made me WORSE. Then Remeron worked at a high dose, and that was because it was impacting the epinephrine. When I gained WAAAYYYY too much weight on it, I stopped for some time and tried to "heal thyself", so to speak. THAT didn't work. Lol. So I tried Effexor XR at a dose where it impacts the norepinephrine more than anything else...I think it starts working on that neurotransmittor at around 150mg. Now I'm on 300mg, and I feel pretty good on it. I'm still agoraphobic, but not as bad as I was. I also use a beta blocker for the physical symptoms of anxiety, and a benzo for the psychological symptoms of anxiety. But the Effexor XR is working its charm, and I don't need as much of the other two meds as I previously did. I still have the anxiety disorder and can't go outside without a safe person yet, BUT....it's a process, you know? And I'm feeling less anxious, and that has to be a good thing.
Do you know which neurotransmittor is causing you the problems? Discover that, and then you have a better chance at finding the right combo for you. Good luck, hon!
God bless,
Sandy
