Ugh. I'd help if I could. I'm sorry that's happening -- it doesn't sound all that respectful of them.
And I disagree with the previous advice about not sweating it. Frankly -- based in part on having met your in-laws -- I'd say put most of that "freakin' out" energy into cleaning. Even if they don't recognize it, I can tell you -- my qualifications: my title as World's Worst Housekeeper -- that I feel particularly superior towards anyone who wishes to criticize me when I've cleaned the house and KNOW it.
