I can't expect to unravel the entire dilemna of feelings vs logic in problem solving here... I would like to put out some ideas I see as bedrock to problem solving strategies as pertaining to the utility values of each (feelings/logic), and get some feedback from y'alls...
This all starts with a confession from me... Ahem... I arrived here in November, 2002, with the seemingly unshakeable bias that the Worlds problems could not be solved by straightening out a person's feelings... My dismissals were guided by the notion that feelings can be so different from moment to moment that in no way could feelings provide any reliable and respectable solutions to problems in the final analysis...
In fact, I felt, messy feelings were the route of all problems, totally at the opposite end of
the yard stick we measure success by... Ergo, (therefore in Latin), since the onset of logic;"Things is because they is, not because I feel they is, but BECAUSE they is!"
This an axiom and a bedrock of logic... Life tools emerge at the same time: acceptance of the fact of the "is" and willingness to share the fact of the "is"...
Where I went wrong is that I judged feelings as being in the way of good information... This is
an all-or-nothing approach to visual problem solving... I can still see myself at age 12
throwing a tennis ball at the wall, thinking and deciding that, "Information is my salvation", but not accepting that information could arrive in ways other than logic only... I had morphed information into logic to create "reason" and "reasoning"...I now sense and accept, partly due to "Babble" and all you guys, that feelings have information
in them... I now see the "Taboo" that if you ignore your gut, you're bound to fail; the picture is now clear for me...Where I resolve the dilemna is that I study my feelings, looking for the earmarks of good
information, and where they fit the picture of the problem. I then join that information with
the "tested-true" logic I hold confident in my set of options available to solve the problem at
hand... Anything I discover in this problem solving session I rejoice and store, adding to my confident collection of options...For whatever part you may have played, thanks guys!!!
