Ah I see it now. It seems they were writing an article about the affects of September 11th played in depression and PTSD with drug and alcohol abuse. It states 'Stress has long been recognized as one of the most powerful triggers for drug craving and relapse to drug abuse' I guess some of my reasons for starting to smoke cigarettes was because I was stressed~after all, I was a patient for the first time in a psychiatric hospital. I wonder about this though.....Dr. Jacques Normand went on to state 'People who experience major trauma and those with PTSD or depression may self-medicate with drugs or alcohol to relax, cope with stress, or relieve symptoms' I was 7 years old when I went through my first traumatic episode
(a rape) I wonder if that has an effect on why I may smoke cigarettes as opposed to using drugs and/or alcohol moreso? I was glad to read that they had a lot of data and that they were interested in doing follow-up studies on the subject.
Good article Seb
Thanks.
