Too Wound Up + Alcohol/Xanax/Neurontin/Serzone

Posted by Temmie on September 22, 2003, at 18:20:55

I just wanna get some rest ....

Have also posted this on P-B. Not sure where it belongs. Appreciate any ideas/insights. Thanks! Temmie.

I'm still trying to figure out my mental health malaise. PTSD, but bi-polar? And does bi-polar mean sensitive to caffeine? Or is this anxiety? Or being middle-aged? I had an espresso drink yesterday in the early afternoon, and was WOUND up all day. Moving furniture, cleaning, vacuuming, doing laundry, sorting, tossing, grading papers, etc. By 7 p.m. I tried to settle down with a beer, and after that I tried to settle down with another. Still feeling wound up, I had a third -- and this isn't/wasn't particularly tasteful, btw. I don't generally like alcohol. By 10 p.m. I was ready to try my new Rx for sleep: Neurontin (so glad to learn it's not named Neurotten, which is what I had thought!) :-) By 12 a.m., and still wide-awake, I took two .25 Xanax, and feeling little to no affects after 1 a.m., I capped all this off with a return to (my usual) Seroquel (25 mg.) I took two.

I'm not trying to drink and drug here -- but honestly! What to do about these fitful days and nights of idling too high? I don't know what to think about this new Rx for Neurontin. I'll have to call my RN and see if I'm supposed to double up ... or perhaps I'll just stay with Seroquel.

Should also cut caffeine, but I sometimes feel I need that "kick-start" in the a.m., especially when dealing with the after-effects of sleep Rx.

Ack. Anyone worked through these issues?

I'm not sure where to post this, incidentally. I'm also wondering ... if increasing Lexapro from .25 to .5 mg. might be making me feel a little more speedy ....
