I also read somewhere that a major reason for the war on drugs is because the cigarette companies pore tons of money into it because they wont only their drug to be legal. There was an article I read but I can't find the link now that said that the cigarette companies started to try to give cigarettes a bad boy image back around 1980 or so because they were afraid illegal drugs would start to outsell cigarettes. I wouldn't doubt if alcohol companies donate money to promote the war on drugs either.
