nicotine addiction and patches

Posted by Basia on February 4, 2004, at 2:00:30

hi, i have been smoking 20-40 cigarettes for twelve years on and off. i am on my third day of quitting using patches (21mg for six weeks then tapering down) and the cravings have been v mild - just the occasional moderate desire after meals and some spaciness and irritability. Because I was expecting much worse due to being such a heavy smoker, I am worried that the actual nicotine withdrawal when I stop the patches (in spite of the taper) is going to be bad enough to get me smoking again.
Does anyone have any experience with the patches and giving up?
Thanks for any advice in advance!

Lyn
