I have taken MDMA with SSRIs and Effexor...(a long time ago) From personal experience, after repeated or even acute exposure to SSRIs or atypical ad's like Effexor, your response to MDMA is severly diminished, and with the more selective SSRIs (Paxil, celexa) your MDMA experience is often completely attenuated.

MDMA works at the reuptake pumps...blocking these sites would naturally decrease the pumps exposure to MDMA. MDMA is less selective to serotonin then most SSRIs (supported by the use of the very unselective SSRI, Prozac)...this is based on years of studies.

I agree that the combination isn't safe, but the danger has probably more to do with blood pressure then serotonin syndrome.
