PC,
I don't have much experience in terms of diet and supplements to aid in sobriety. I wouldn't think you would need to go through day-long blood sugar level testing though. I would think that you will be very aware (by the physical sensations) of peaks and spikes in blood sugar. Believe me, I definitely know when my blood sugar drops because I get extremely lightheaded, shaky and anxious (I have mistaken a hypoglycemic attack as a panic many, many times).
I don't think you are spinning your wheels. I think you are on the right track. I can't remember if you said you were using Taurine (another amino acid) or not. If not, you may want to add that to your regime. You may not want to do this, but I have visited the site The Way Up (www.thewayup.com) and the person who runs the site has a section on conditions (including alcoholism) where she recommends appropriate supplements. Anyway, I have e-mailed her on occassion for advice on supplements I have been taking (although not entirely true, I tell her that I have perused her book and am trying to implement an appropriate plan for myself). She has been very good about getting back to me (usually within a day or two) with answers to questions and advice.
Anyway, sorry I can't be more helpful. I wish you all the best.
Take care
Tamara
> ...to aid in sobriety? I just bought a copy of "Eating Right to Live Sober", and I started to take some supplements too. Will I be able to use these tools effectively without having to go through a day-long blood sugar level test? The research I've done so far for nutritional counselling services look like they just want to suck the money out of you and sell high priced vitamins. I'm just ornery enough to try to do this myself.
