Alcohol withdrawal

Posted by AMD on July 26, 2005, at 14:46:01

Folks,

Is it possible to have severe alcohol withdrawal even after one night of semi-heavy drinking? Or occasional (not daily, say weekly) heavy drinking?

I ask because I went out Saturday and drank about 6-7 drinks in the course of three or so hours. According to most charts, that's a BAL of about .12 or so. High, but not ridiculous.

The next day, however, I slept all day, and had no energy. Yesterday, too, I was dragging -- having to take deep breaths as if short-of-breath, and generally feeling this wired-like anxiety, no energy, just ... yuck.

Today I woke up in a cold sweat, feeling bad, and am still a bit jittery.

I'm freaking out I'm having DT's or something. Is this possible? Is it possible this is still the withdrawal? Is this going to go away? I feel terrible! I just want to go home and crawl into bed again. Is damage getting worse because I stopped drinking, or should I expect it to improve? Did I harm my brain -- would that cause these symptoms?

Thanks.
