It's very important! It's supposed to be easier to quit heroin than cigarettes. I did it ten years ago, and now never think about it. For me, it helped to go down gradually, and then stop inhaling when I got down to 3-4 a day. After I stopped, when i would feel overpowered with the urge to smoke, I would take the deepest breath I could, hold it, then exhale slowly- that helped a lot. It was so hard for about three weeks, but then got gradually easier day by day. Now, it's a non-issue. There weren't patches then, but perhaps they would make it easier?
