There are a variety of options now, not just nicotine gum, but also Zyban/Wellbutrin, and more importantly Chantix, which is the first real targeted agent that prevents nicotine from binding to its major subreceptor in the brain. Its not a perfect agent and because nicotine is so powerful an addiction for probably about 80% of the population that smokes, Chantix doesn't always work for people. But its a start.
They've even put different flavors in nicotine gum which I question the wisdom for abuse by underage individuals, but they're usually locked up behind cases so I suppose its not the worst thing. And also the nicotine patch.
Don't worry what people think of you, think of yourself, which I think you are doing. Kicking the habit at your age will vastly reduce harmful problems down the road. You'll want the years on your life when you feel better. But the removal of cigarettes may in fact require adjustment of medication because you may be using it inadvertently as a lift.
