I am thinking of switching to Effexor and would love some input. I have been on Celexa for about 5 months and it works great for me, except I have gained 20 lbs, have horrible night sweats, and ZERO sex drive. My pdoc suggested switching to Effexor, but I'm scared of getting on that merry-go-round again after finding an AD that finally worked for me. But I really am sick of having no sex drive, and I hate the weight gain (although this could be from stopping smoking).
Can anybody with Effexor experience give me any advice? Thank you so much!

> Can anybody with Effexor experience give me any advice? Thank you so much!LD, I'm taking Effexor 300 mg/day, and find it very helpful with depression and pretty helpful also with reducing OCD. It doesn't seem to interfere with sex, for me, although I have read some people complain of this. Serzone and Effexor-XR are the two meds that haven't interfered with sex for me. Effexor-XR does make it a little harder for me to sleep, while Serzone made me have strange mood swings the first couple of weeks (which then went away). Hope this helps. Finding the right med is a highly individual thing I guess. Good luck!--Cindy W

My encounter with Effexor is not a pleasant one.I have had night sweats, shivers, electric sensations going through my body begining every night @ about 4 PM, flu like symptoms. I can't even explain some of the symptoms, I just feel like I am losing my mind. I can't say how Effexor will work for everyone, but it was not for me.
I Have Been Off It For Over A Month Too.Not to mention the horrible dreams, and sleep walking. I have gone outside naked, and busted a window out with my bare hand. BEWARE, and BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!

Thank you both for your comments. What other ADs have you tried?
Cheryl- have you had any luck with any others?

> Cheryl- have you had any luck with any others?Cheryl, I tried imipramine, Sinequan, and Ludiomil before Prozac. Imipramine was OK but is cardiotoxic. Ludiomil made me a crazy zombie. Sinequan made me sleep for two days. Prozac worked at first, but pooped out (after l0 years, this is not surprising though). Prozac, Luvox, Zoloft, and Serzone, before Effexor-XR. Prozac, Luvox, and Zoloft all interfered with sexual desire, arousal, and orgasm, big time! Serzone didn't do that, but didn't help my OCD. Guess I'm lucky, because other side effects either don't bother me much or go away (with Prozac, initial dizziness; with Luvox, thirst; with Serzone, mood swings and dizziness the first two weeks; with Effexor-XR, some insomnia). Usually I acclimate rapidly to whatever side effects the AD have (except for the problems with libido). Effexor-XR seems to help a lot without much loss of desire (although it did change the quality of my orgasms...instead of feeling like I needed more than one to feel satisfied, one is now much more satisfying, although it takes a little longer to get there! Hope this helps.--Cindy W
