Does anyone want to sleep all the time on effexor?

Posted by Terry on May 7, 2000, at 21:29:38

I have been taking 75mg of effexor everyday for four days. The first two days were wonderful, then I started to feel sleepy. I've got where I can hardly stay awake. If anyone else feels like this please let me know. Thanks Terry

Terry - Many people feel tired at first, while taking Effexor. This is one of the initial "start-up" side effects and usually disappears, or at least lessens greatly, in about 2 (sometimes as long as 4) weeks. Hang in there and keep us posted on how it goes. - Cam

P.S. - Also do not expect the full therapeutic effect of the drug until 4 to 8 weeks after starting it.

Terry,
I was very sleepy for the first few months. It does get better. I find I do better if I can force myself to go to bed at a reasonable hour at night. For a long time I got into this stay up half the night and sleep after work until supper deal. Good luck. Renee N

Terry, I feel very awake all the time on Effexor XR. Some people have mentioned nightmares, my nightmares have almost stopped with Effexor. Seems as with all meds, the side effects vary greatly. Also some mention gaining weight, I have to remind myself to eat while on this stuff. Interesting.

The bad news is that I feel sleepy much of the time. The worse news is that I have a hell of a time getting to sleep at night.

Then again, I am sleeping pretty well, considering.

The other thing to keep in mind is that I am such a night owl, I could easily work most of the night and sleep most of the day. The part I hate is that I could also get up before dawn and be really productive then, and then nap around noon and be happy.

The changes in my life: living with someone for the first time in a decade, adjusting to another person's schedule, and especially going from 'scratching a living out of the bare earth' sort of thing to 'domestic partner of computer programmer who works 80 hours a week and earns not nearly enough, but six times what anyone else does and expects clean laundry and dinner on the table when he gets home at midnight' style living. Well, those are some tough changes to make.

Hell, for the last decade, I didn't bother with dinner half the time, because PopTarts seemed good enough... (OK, let's forget PopTarts, but something similar.)

Good luck. I love Effexor, and rejoice at its effects on my life. Best thing since two piece bathing suits.
