i saw an old post on this website from about a year ago about using opiates for depression..i am taking paxil and have been taking it for about 2 and a half years or so..i thought it was the thing helping me but i figured out that it was actually the hydrocodone (vicodin, lorcet) that was the only thing helping me.i tryed zoloft b4 to but that didnt help me at all..the hydrocodone is the only thing that gives me enough drive to actually go out and do things with my life..if the hydrocodone is the only thing helping me in life then why do they make such a big deal about giving it to me?..im over 18..im an adult...it's my life...in other countries u don't even need a prescription for it...are there any doctors that any of you know of or heard of that would prescribe it to a person who is depressed and has'nt responded to any other medication except hydrocodone?im thinking that maybe some depressed people like myself actually have a problem with their opioid receptors and that is the reason they are depressed...?

I'm wondering if it was my post you saw, but I, too, had a very strong anti-depressant reaction to hydrocodone. The negatives are it is very difficult to find an MD that will prescribe it for you in that capacity, mainly because it is illegal to do so. You can go to Mexico and get a physician to prescribe it for you and there are sites on the web that will lead you to pharmacies that are willing to do so. The negatives: it will take an increasing amount (you WILL build tolerance) of hydrocodone to get this effect, which means dr. shopping, etc. There comes a point when it actually worsens the depression, I don't know if it's guilt or because it is a CNS depressant, not unlike alcohol in this respect- which starts out making you feel good but then turns on you. As you can see, I am speaking from experience, but I know when I was 18, no one could tell me anything, and I always had to learn through experience. Twenty years later, it's still the same story. Take care and I hope you feel better.

In some people opiates are the class that works. A list started a while back
about this. The sticky wicket here is that once you start you cannot just stop.
You will be in deep doo doo unless you are sure your doc will not cut you off, move,
or not be there to withdraw you. I know from my cronic pain friends
that if your doc moves, ect you can find someone to withdraw you but it can be
hard, esp with depression, to find another that will continue the meds. Here all
the cronic pain docs are not taking new patients.james
